Our work

Our research is in the field of auditory cognitive neuroscience and focuses on the brain processes that mediate the perception of auditory input. Our work uses behavioral methods (psychophysics), eye tracking, and functional brain imaging (EEG). We study 1) sound organization’s memory and attentional processes underlying auditory object perception and 2) the origin and operation of information processing functions involved in communication and music perception, such as detecting acoustic regularities. 3) how participants in communicative interactions synchronize in EEG and behavior

Examples of the questions we address in our experiments are:

How do listeners synchronize during realistic natural communication settings?

How are listeners able to follow someone’s speech in a multi-talker environment?

How do we detect patterns in rapidly unfolding sound sequences?

What are the cortical mechanisms for statistical and supervised learning of auditory spatial cues?

What are auditory plasticity’s cognitive and neural mechanisms across the human lifespan?

Does coordination between student and teacher or mother and child help learning new movement patterns?
