Who we are: At the DNA Repair Laboratory, housed within the HUN-REN Research Centre for Natural Sciences, our primary objective is to enhance our understanding of DNA repair processes and leverage this knowledge to pinpoint new vulnerabilities in diseases such as cancer or neurodegeneration. Currently we are focusing on how terminally differentiated cells handle DNA lesions in contrast to actively replicating cells. Using state-of-the-art techniques in genomics, proteomics, biochemistry, and molecular and cell biology, we strive to decipher the differences in DNA repair processes between healthy individuals and those affected by cancer or neurodegenerative diseases.

What we offer: The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative and supportive team, working directly under the guidance of Dr. Gergely Rona in our newly established laboratory. This MSc/PhD candidate position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, advanced imaging, next-generation sequencing, and proteomics. Access to cutting-edge facilities at the HUN-REN RCNS, along with opportunities for professional development, networking, and a competitive salary, makes this an ideal environment for postdoctoral research.

Research environment: Our laboratory is situated in the vibrant heart of Budapest, within the Institute of Enzymology. As an integral part of the institute, we engage in interdisciplinary research spanning biology, chemistry, physics, and bioinformatics.

What we are looking for: We invite applications from candidates holding a BSc or MSc degree in Life Sciences, with theoretical knowledge in molecular biology. Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in either cell biology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics. We are fully committed to cultivating an inclusive laboratory environment that welcomes applicants of any gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or religion.

To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter detailing your research experience and interests to Dr. Gergely Rona at rona.gergely@ttk.hu.
